Tan Xu Teng — known to his students as Coach XT — began his tennis coaching journey in 2001. At that time, he was an undergraduate at the Law Faculty NUS. There, he saw that Singapore needed top-level tennis coaches to raise coaching standards and elevate the national game.
Consequently, he set his sights on attracting elite players with proven regional success. In 2007, he founded Tennis Allegiance Group (TAG) International to make that vision a reality.

Coach XT’s work in developing and producing top level juniors in Singapore and regionally is widely recognised in the industry. Overall, Coach XT is a highly accomplished professional tennis player and coach with a distinguished career. Indeed, he is widely regarded as one of Singapore’s top male tennis players. Notably, Coach XT has represented Singapore many times, winning an individual Bronze Medal at the ASEAN University Games in 2004.
Moreover, he reached a career-high ITF Men’s 35+ Tour world ranking of #56. He was also Singapore’s ranked #1 Men’s Doubles player in August 2018, Singapore Open Champion in 2019, and Men’s 35+ Pesta Sukan Champion. As a result of these achievements, Coach XT was appointed Senior Coach of the ActiveSG Tennis Academy and coach of Singapore’s Men’s National Team in 2018.
Coach XT’s Tennis Playing Style and Career
Coach XT plays right-handed and is known as one of Singapore’s best tennis tacticians. Specifically, he uses a single-handed backhand — capable of heavy topspin or a sharp slice. His all-court counter-punching style exploits opponents’ weaknesses. Furthermore, he applies constant pressure with his willingness to attack the net at any opportunity.
His singles game is built on superior fitness, movement, and court coverage. Between 2017 and 2018, he competed on the ITF Men’s Singles 35+ Seniors Tour in Hong Kong, China, Australia, and the United Kingdom. In fact, he posted strong results throughout the tour and consequently rose to a world ranking of #56 — the highest ever achieved by a Singaporean.

Coach XT’s achievements in tennis coaching are truly outstanding. Notably, when SportSG and ActiveSG launched the ActiveSG Tennis Academy, they appointed Coach XT as its first Senior Tennis Coach. From the ground up, he built the academy’s frameworks and foundations.
Subsequently, his success in developing top-level juniors earned him an invitation to present at the WTA Coaches Conference. This was held during the BNP WTA World Tour Finals presented by SC Global. There, he shared his methods with coaches from Singapore and across the region.
In addition, Coach XT holds impressive coaching certifications. Specifically, he holds a PTR Full Professional certification for elite juniors (ages 11–17), issued directly by Dan Santorum. He also holds the AustralAsian Academy of Tennis Coaches (AATC) Level 2 Coaching Certificate.
Together, these credentials place Coach XT among the most qualified tennis coaches in Southeast Asia.

Coach XT’s work in developing elite juniors is so widely recognised in Singapore that when Singapore hosted the BNP Paribas WTA Finals powered by SC Global, for the WTA Coaches Conference attended by international and local coaches alike, Coach XT was invited to present a paper and share his methods for the development of top level juniors. His paper “The Little Differences that make a Big Difference in the Development of High Performance Juniors” was very insightful and well-received by the audience, who fielded many questions on how best to help their students or children become high-level tennis players.
His exceptional coaching skills are recognised by many people, which even includes professional tennis players, Gael Monfils, Andre Agassi, Takao Suzuki and Tim Rath.

Coach XT is accredited by the National Registry of Coaches (NROC) via CoachSG. In addition, he is registered with the Ministry of Education (MOE). Moreover, he holds Basic First Aid and AED certification from Emergencies and Rescue First Aid.
Since 2018, Coach XT has been Head Coach at Nanyang Girls’ High School (NYGH). Under his leadership, the team achieved consecutive top-4 finishes. Furthermore, the team scored major upsets over Raffles Girls School, Methodist Girls School, and Singapore Chinese Girls School.
In 2023, his NYGH graduates moved to Hwa Chong Institution. Accordingly, Coach XT followed them to continue coaching on a six-year tennis journey. Additionally, in 2025, his coaching commitments expanded to all three divisions at St. Joseph’s Institution (SJI). As a result, in his first year with the SJI B Division, Coach XT guided the team to a championship title.

ActiveSG Tennis Academy & Sports Singapore
As Senior Tennis Coach of ActiveSG Tennis Academy, Coach XT also took charge of the Ministry of Education‘s Junior Sports Academy tennis program, which focuses on talented athletes from other fields of sports to learn tennis as part of a talent development and exposure program.
Winchester Tennis Arena
In 2013, Coach XT identified a gap in Singapore’s tennis infrastructure. Specifically, changing weather conditions were disrupting outdoor play. At the time, indoor courts existed only at the Singapore Island Country Club, Keppel Club, and the Four Seasons Hotel.
Therefore, working with Singapore state agencies, Coach XT built 4 premium indoor tennis courts at Alexandra Park — now known as Winchester Tennis Arena. Initially, critics doubted the project’s scale and ambition. However, a decade on, it has proven them wrong. Today, Winchester Tennis Arena is home to the prestigious TAG International Tennis Academy and several tennis clubs, including Paul Wong’s Sunday Tennis, TB Cougars, TNT Tennis Club, and the Law Society of Singapore.
Venue Management
Coach XT’s intimate understanding of the industry and its operations, coupled with his management experience at the 70,000 sqft Wave House Sentosa enabled him to set up the club and venue management arm of TAG International, where venues will outsource their in-house tennis programs, and venue management to TAG Management.
Presently, TAG manages facilities such as Winchester Tennis Arena, TAG @ One-North, Novotel@Stevens and Chinese Swimming Club, with venue rental arrangements in several other venues such as Tanah Merah Country Club and a number of International Schools in Singapore. Past venues under TAG management include SAFRA Mount Faber, SAFRA Yishun, SAFRA Tampines, HomeTeamNS JOMS Balestier, Serangoon Gardens Country Club, and Warren Golf and Country Club.
Ladies WITS and LTS Teams
Additionally, he coaches ladies competitive teams on weekday mornings. Under his tutelage, particularly on Doubles Mastery, his teams have an impressive track record of steadily being promoted over the years. His teams include Tennity led by Mana Miyal in the Ladies Tennis Singapore (LTS); and in the Women’s International Tennis Singapore (WITS) – Absolute Global, Everything is Awesome, and previously Power Girls and Aces.
Corporate Clinics
Coach XT’s ability to handle large groups together with his team of coaches enable the Academy to conduct multiple court corporate clinics for commercial entities, government sector agencies, and banks. High profile corporate recreation club clinics and ongoing classes include Shell Club, Singapore Power, DBS, OCBC, Credit Agricole, Standard Chartered Bank, Law Society of Singapore and SportCares.

As Sports Chairman of The Law Society of Singapore since 2020 where he is also the tennis convenor. Coach XT contributed and led LSS to victory in the 2023 Med-Law Doctors vs Lawyers Tennis Games and the 2024 Bench & Bar Games against the Malaysians both in tennis and overall.

Coach XT owns and actively shapes the direction of Sanwa X Tennis Academy, a key player in Singapore’s tennis scene. While Head Coach Wataru Ochi leads the academy’s day-to-day operations, Coach XT’s vision and influence drive its overall strategy. Sanwa X Tennis Academy is dedicated to developing the next generation of tennis talent in Singapore. The academy focuses on both individual and group tennis lessons. Sanwa X has a track record of producing competitive players who excel in national and international arenas.
Sugita Tennis Asia – Japan No.1 Brings World-Class Tennis to Singapore
Coach XT brought Yuichi Sugita, former Japanese professional tennis player to Singapore. Sugita was the former Japanese #1 in Males Tennis, and achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 36 on October 9, 2017. Throughout his career, Sugita demonstrated his skills on the ATP tour, earning $2,978,289 in prize money, as well as winning an ATP singles title (Antalya Open) in 2017.
Yuichi Sugita, along with Coach XT and Coach Ochi, set up Sugita Tennis Asia, an international training academy based in Singapore, which offers professional tennis lessons.
Academia and Career Outside Tennis
Academically, Coach XT scored 5A* and an aggregate of 276 in the PSLE. Subsequently, he enrolled at Raffles Institution, where he achieved 9 Distinctions. There, he was awarded the Tan Geok Ser Award and a Special Testimonial as an outstanding Rafflesian. At Raffles Junior College, he received the Shaw Foundation Scholarship for high achievement in both academics and sports.
Thereafter, Coach XT graduated from NUS Law School with Upper Honours in 2004 and was admitted to the Singapore Bar. He then joined the prestigious law firm WongPartnership before being headhunted by Wave House | Wave Loch | Surf Loch Group of Companies. As the Group’s General Counsel for Asia-Pacific from 2009 to 2019, he led Wave House Sentosa to multiple hospitality and entertainment awards from the Singapore Tourism Board and leading magazines. Today, Coach XT is the owner of Singapore’s premier tennis academy, TAG International Tennis Academy.
Community Involvement, Charity & Volunteering
Since 2014, Coach XT has been running his charity called “Rally for Hope”, where through tennis related activities, fund raise for the less fortunate members of Singapore. To date, Rally for Hope has raised more than S$160,000 after dollar matching by various private and public institutions to help the underprivileged in our country.
Currently serving as the Chairman of the Sports Committee of the Law Society of Singapore, and Vice-Chairman of the TNT Tennis Club and the International Council of Tennis Players for Singapore. He also served on the ministerial level Strategic Review Committee for SAFRA, and was also the Vice-Chairman of the SAFRA Punggol Concept Committee (PCC), SAFRA Development Committee (PDC), and the SAFRA Youth Network (SYNC).

Family
As well, Coach XT is married to Su Hsien who is the Group General Manager of TAG International. They have a son, Marcus and their beloved family pet dog, Cookie.
TAG International Tennis Academy established itself in the Singapore tennis market as a premium coaching hub. Furthermore, all coaches have had extensive competitive success. Tennis Lessons for All Levels at TAG Tennis
TAG International offers tennis lessons for all ages and skill levels. Specifically, this includes beginners, intermediate, and advanced players. Above all, coaches focus on the three most important aspects of tennis: technique, strategy, and movement.
Training involves drills, fitness conditioning, and match practice. For example, students learn all the key strokes: forehand, backhand, serve, and volley. This prepares them for both singles and doubles play. Moreover, match play sessions teach rules, etiquette, score-keeping, and sportsmanship.
