It has been an outstanding year for Coach XT (Tan Xu Teng) and the students of TAG International Tennis Academy. The 2025 National School Games and Singapore Tennis Association (STA) SPEX Tournaments produced winners across multiple age groups. These results continue a long run of success for Singapore’s premier tennis coaching programme.
SJI B Division Champions 2025 — Ending a 34-Year Drought
In 2025, Coach XT led St. Joseph’s Institution (SJI) to the B Division Championship. This ended a 34-year wait for the school. It was his first year coaching all three SJI divisions. Nevertheless, the B Division title stands as an immediate statement of intent.
This result reflects Coach XT’s track record of transforming school teams. He has done it before at Nanyang Girls’ High School (NYGH). There, his tenure produced consecutive top-4 finishes and a historic C Division championship in 2023. His teams also achieved multiple upsets over more fancied schools, including Raffles Girls School and Methodist Girls School. When his NYGH graduates moved to Hwa Chong Institution in 2023, he followed them. As a result, he delivered back-to-back A Division 1st Runners Up finishes in 2023 and 2024.
Brian Hartono: U12 Doubles Champion and World Juniors Representative
Brian Hartono continues to be the standout junior talent in Coach XT’s programme. In 2025, Brian won the U12 Doubles Championship. He also represented Singapore at the ITF World Junior Championships — a remarkable achievement at his age. He won the ATF Junior Tournament in Thailand that same year.
Brian’s rapid development is no accident. He won the U10 Singles Championship in 2023. Then, in 2024, he claimed the U12 Singles Championship at just 11 years old. His 2025 results confirm that he is on course to become one of Singapore’s most significant junior tennis talents.
Kate Yap Wins U16 Singles Championship 2025
Kate Yap claimed the U16 Singles Championship title in 2025 under Coach XT’s guidance. The U16 category is among the most competitive age groups in the STA SPEX calendar. Therefore, this win is a significant milestone in her development pathway.
Kate joins an impressive list of U16 champions developed by Coach XT. Previous winners include Joelle Goh (2017), Matthias Wong (2017), Bill Chan (2017), Lim Lerr Min (2018), and Claire Chan (2018). Charlotte Yeo (2019), Sarah Chan (2022), Amelie Gonzalez (2023), and Wee E Wen (2022) also claimed the title under his coaching.
Joy Lee: National Junior Fed Cup (Billie Jean King Cup) Representative
Joy Lee represented Singapore as part of the National Junior Fed Cup team at the Billie Jean King Cup in 2024. This is one of the most prestigious junior team competitions in women’s tennis. Joy had previously won the U14 Singles Championship in 2023 and represented Singapore at World Juniors that same year. Her continued progression at international level reflects the quality of her long-term development under Coach XT.
A Decade of National Champions
The 2025 results add to a consistent decade of championship production from Coach XT and TAG International Tennis Academy. Since 2017, TAG-coached students have won national titles across virtually every age group. In most years, they have claimed multiple titles simultaneously. No other coaching programme in Singapore has produced a comparable sustained record.
This is not by chance. Coach XT’s approach combines technical coaching from ex-professional coaches with tactical development, physical conditioning, and mental toughness training. All of this is structured around individually assessed development plans. The results speak for themselves.
